As a subtractive manufacturing process. The CNC milling fixture can fix a piece of metal or plastic material and mill it out quickly through a programmed CNC machine tool. If your project has urgent plans and requires relatively high tolerances, CNC milling may be the best process for you.

Three-axis and four-axis CNC milling

3-axis and 4-axis CNC milling machines are the most commonly used CNC milling processes, which have lower tolerance levels but are more affordable. We recommend using a 3-axis or 4-axis CNC milling process to produce parts with simple geometries.

Five-axis CNC milling

The 5-axis CNC milling center represents the highest manufacturing capability that CNC milling services can achieve. It has a higher price, but it has higher efficiency than 3-axis CNC milling, and is more suitable for producing parts with complex geometric shapes.

Anodizing can improve corrosion resistance, enhance wear resistance and hardness, and protect metal surfaces. Widely used in mechanical parts, airplanes, auto parts, precision instruments, etc.

CNC milling design recommendations

The following table summarizes some basic principles in CNC milling design. Following these recommendations can greatly improve production efficiency and reduce costs. Learn more about the CNC design guide.

Recommended: ⅓ Multiple of cavity depth (or greater)

By using the recommended value for the inner corner radius, you can ensure that you have a suitable diameter tool and conform to the recommended cavity depth guide.

Internal Edges Image

Recommended: 0.8mm (metal), 1.5mm (plastic)

The smaller the wall thickness, the smaller the stiffness of the material. This can cause vibration during machining and reduce accuracy. We recommend that you use a larger minimum wall thickness for plastics.

Recommended diameter: Standard drill size

Recommended depth: 4-40 times the nominal diameter

The tool used for drilling is a drill or an end mill. For high-precision holes smaller than ⌀20mm, standard diameters are recommended.

Recommended size: Above M6

Recommended length: 3 times the nominal diameter

Threads are divided into internal threads and external threads. The internal thread is cut with a tap, while the external thread is cut with a die. Taps and dies can be used to cut threads to M2. CNC threaded tools are common and are therefore preferred because they limit the risk of tap breakage.
